The Best Lightweight Golf Bag with a Stand? El Camino Bag Review
Sometimes less is more, and for short course enthusiasts like myself, a Sunday Golf bag is the perfect solution for most par 3 adventures.
Unfortunately, minimalism only gets you so far (I’ve learned this the hard way).
A few times each year I venture out onto a regulation course, and in those instances, it’s really helpful to have close to a full set of clubs.
With that in mind, I decided that I should find a lightweight golf bag with a stand. After hours of Ph.D-level internet research, I landed on the El Camino bag from Sunday Golf.
The El Camino bag is a great compromise between an ultra-small Sunday bag and an overly-bulky traditional bag. This midsize golf bag is perfect for:
- Driving range sessions
- Executive golf courses
- Walking a regulation course
- Tournaments and other events where you need more golf clubs
With this lightweight golf bag in hand, I thought it would be helpful to share some of my observations.
So here we go!
As the proud owner of an El Camino bag, I can attest to the following:
- Packed with features
- Just 3.9lbs
- Holds up to 12 clubs
- 8 color options
- Lifetime warranty
- Not the cheapest option on the market
My Quick Review of the El Camino Golf Bag
If you’re on the lookout for a lightweight, easy-to-carry golf bag with a casual style, the Sunday Golf El Camino is a great choice.
It weighs just 3.9 lbs and includes:
- Built in stand
- Comfortable shoulder strap
- Plenty of storage space
I think I made the right choice for a lightweight golf bag with a stand, but if you need more details, here’s my in-depth review.

Sunday Golf El Camino Bag: An Overview
If you’re like me and you want the best of both worlds (minimalism AND functionality), the El Camino bag brings that healthy dose of yin and yang.
The first thing I noticed in the design is that this is truly a carry bag. A dual-flex stand and a premium dual shoulder strap make it easy for me to walk the course and put this golf stand bag down when I’m ready to take my next shot (for par, of course).
But the most important detail for me is the weight. I don’t want to sacrifice my back in exchange for a bit of on-course cardio, so finding a lightweight bag factored heavily into my purchasing decision. This carry bag weighs just 3.9lbs and I don’t need to call my chiropractor when my golf round is finished.
Sometimes I find myself in a situation where I can’t walk the course, and thankfully Sunday Golf planned for that as well. Thanks to a flat base, the El Camino can work as a golf cart bag, but I think it’s best viewed as a carry bag.
The El Camino: Key Features

Four Way Golf Club Divider
You can organize your golf clubs however you want, but you’ll want to make sure you balance out the weight so your bag doesn’t tip. Here’s how I use the 4 sections:
- Driver/wood/hybrid (front storage area, closest to the stand legs)
- The three irons I hit best (right storage area)
- Three wedges: PW/SW/GW (left storage area)
- Putter (back storage area, closest to handle)
The bag can carry up to 12 golf clubs comfortably, which is all I need. This setup helps me balance the weight of the bag strategically.
I leave a few clubs at home (the ones I don’t hit well, of course).
Pockets, Pockets, Pockets
Got a rangefinder? There’s a pocket for that.
Want to keep your drinks cold? The insulated frosty pocket has you covered.

A golf ball pocket, apparel pocket, mesh pocket, and a velour-lined valuables pocket are also part of the deal.
I was impressed with all of my options for storage, and even though I tend to pack light, it’s nice to know that the room is there if I need it.
Stable Base and Stand
As a reminder, my goal was to find the best lightweight golf bag with a stand.
It goes without saying that the stand shouldn’t be flimsy.
So far, so good in this category. The Duraflex stand system lets me set my bag down in most places without it toppling over.
Stylish Design
I’m not too cool to admit that I like to look cool.
Sunday Golf did a great job designing a bag that looks sharp on the course, plus they gave me 8 color choices to deliberate over.
Side note: I went with midnight green, but Cobalt blue was a close runner-up.
Bonus Features
If you’re like me, you can appreciate an attention to detail, and Sunday Golf leaves very few stones unturned. The El Camino bag includes:
- a golf glove holder
- waterproof zippers (not to be underestimated)
- tee/pencil holder
This MIDSIZE golf bag is BIG on features and gives me lots of options for my golf accessories.

Customer Support & Warranty
Again, I’m very happy with my lightweight golf bag.
But if I didn’t like the El Camino, Sunday Golf offers me two options that go above and beyond the standard customer service.
A “Good Time” Guarantee promises 30 days, no hassle-returns. This is great if you end up with buyer’s remorse.
More important to me however, is the FREE lifetime warranty. Sunday Golf backs up its products, and I like knowing that workmanship or material defects are fully covered.
Echoes from Other Users: Customer Reviews of this Lightweight Golf Bag
I’m just one voice amongst many. As I did my research, I found that other golfers were drawn to this bag for similar reasons.
The El Camino bag is a crowd favorite in a crowded market, garnering 100+ 5 star reviews over at Sunday Golf and a 4.7 star rating on Amazon. That’s a good sign.
Overall, the El Camino Bag has received glowing reviews from users who value practicality and style on the golf course.
As the proud owner of an El Camino bag, I can attest to the following:

- Just 3.9lbs

My Final Endorsement
I can’t speak to how this bag will hold up over time, but I own several of Loma Bags from Sunday Golf, and they’ve done quite well over the years. I feel good about the materials used in the El Camino.
I love this bag so far.
It hits all the marks for weight, features, and functionality. Plus, it looks good!
Two caveats worth considering:
- You won’t be able to fit a 14 clubs in this bag.
- Even though it can fit in a golf cart or a golf push cart, it’s primarily designed as a carry bag.
That being said, if you’re in the market for a lightweight golf bag with a stand, the El Camino is a functional and stylish choice.
