I’ve been a neat freak since I was a kid. For whatever reason, I take pride in keeping my prized possessions clean and organized.
My high standards of cleanliness fell by the wayside in college. It’s tough the hold the line in a college dorm. Getting married and having kids made it even tougher.
Even though I’ve been forced to compromise along the way, there are still a few things that I must keep clean. My car, my sneakers and my golf clubs still get the royal treatment.

Golf Club Cleaning Kit – First Impressions

When my Birdie Buffer box arrived, I opened up the package and was pleasantly surprised to find a few small extras (in my case, a Birdie Buffer branded Vice golf ball and a metallic Birdie Buffer sticker). If you’re like me, you can appreciate any and all unexpected bonuses.
But the kit itself stood out more than anything. In the photo below, you’ll see that each kit comes in a drawstring pouch that includes:
- 1 bottle of 4oz Club Wash
- 1 bottle of 4oz Shaft Wax
- 1 bottle of 4oz Grip Restore
- A premium golf brush with groove pick and carabiner
- A microfiber towel
In other words, I didn’t have to find an old cleaning rag or come up with some clever way to attach the golf club brush cleaner to my bag. Birdie Buffer has taken care of all the details.
The drawstring bag can be used to store my golf club cleaning supplies or could be repurposed for carrying golf balls.
All in all, the contents of the kit were well-packaged and didn’t disappoint.
Is Birdie Buffer the Best Golf Club Cleaner?
As far as I can tell, Birdie Buffer may be the most complete club cleaning package for the price.
But the most important question still remains: Does the golf club cleaner work?
Exhibit A features my dirty 8 iron that I let sit for several days. The mud you see on the club face is from a shot I hit from the very edge of a pond (I’m proud to say that I avoided a stroke penalty).
Exhibit B is the end result after spraying on the Golf Club Wash, using the golf brush that was included with the kit, and wiping the club face clean with the provided microfiber towel. I literally invested 45 seconds in the cleaning process and this was the result.
You could take more time to clean your clubs and I’m sure the results would be even more impressive. I was happy with minimal effort and a clear positive outcome.
Make Your Golf Clubs Look New
After cleaning the club face and shaft with the golf club cleaning solution, I moved on to steps 2 and 3 of the cleaning kit.
Step 2 is the Golf Shaft Wax. It’s pretty simple to use. You spray the shaft of your club with the solution and then wipe it down with the microfiber towel. It is important to keep this solution off of your golf grips. My club shaft was nice and shiny after using this wax.

Step 3 is the Golf Grip Restore. This is the only part of the kit that I can’t fully comment on. My golf grips are in pretty good shape, so even though I used the Grip Restore, I couldn’t detect any significant difference.
That’s not to say that this part of the kit doesn’t work. I just didn’t have dirty enough grips to make any definitive conclusion.
