Golden Gate Park Golf Course is a par 3 in San Francisco, California.

Located just a few hundred yards away from the Pacific Ocean, this historic course first opened in 1949. In early 2023, Golden Gate Park closed for a $2.5-million renovation with the goal of turning the course into one of the best municipal par 3s in the United States.

The course reopened in February of 2024, and boasts a number of key improvements for public golf in the San Francisco area. Highlights include:

  • Accessible (the course can be reached by foot, bike, bus or car)
  • Affordable (locals pay a reasonable rate and the course supports First Tee and Youth on Course programs)
  • Playable (ideal for golfers of all skill levels)
  • Sustainable (set up to use less water and chemicals)

Golden Gate Park Golf Course features distances ranging from 52-160 yards. The entire course is mowed at one height, and there is one formal bunker (though plenty of other areas where one could get into trouble). A hole by hole description is available in this Golfweek article.

This is a great place to play golf with family or friends, but make sure each member of your group has golf equipment as Golden Gate Park does not allow shared sets (for speed of play). In theory, this course can be played with just a putter.

Other on-site amenities include:

  • New clubhouse
  • Putting green
  • Chipping green
