Unboxing the MLM2Pro

This is what you’ll see when you first open the box.

The product arrived in a small sleek white box. I couldn’t help but wonder: did I forget to order the stand? Was that a separate purchase that I needed to make?

My fears were relieved when I realized just how portable the MLM2Pro was going to be. The stand is included right in the carry case. The notch you see in the photo below holds a phone or a tablet.

Everything you need, included the stand, fits in the small black carrying case.

Setting Up the MLM2Pro (for the First Time)

I’m not going to lie, this was probably the most frustrating part of my journey with the MLM2Pro.

Rapsodo wants you to fully charge the unit before you download the app and connect it to your phone. I took the product straight from the box to the range in order to test it out with my friend Dillon (who made this Rapsodo MLM2Pro Video Review).

I wasted his time and mine. The app needed the unit to have at least a 75% charge in order to update the firmware, etc. It wouldn’t allow me to update the firmware on a 60% charge.

Make Sure The Unit Is Fully charged Before It’s First Use.

These are the manufacturer instructions, and I chose to ignore them.

Once the unit was properly charged, it was easy to sync to the app.

The Best Features of the MLM2Pro

I could go into detail about everything the product offers, but who reads all that stuff?

Here are the highlights:

#1 – The Price

If you’ve done any research on launch monitors, you know these bad boys are expensive.

The Rapsodo MLM2Pro isn’t exactly cheap, but $700 is a bargain compared to the alternatives. If you’re looking to get more practice and precise feedback on your shots, this unit has the best cost/benefit ratio of any alternatives.

The same is true if you’re looking to build a DIY golf simulator that won’t break the bank.

#2 – Ease of Setup

This launch monitor takes 1 minute to set up. It’s virtually dummy-proof.

All I need to do is set up my tee and then use the app to make sure my golf ball sits in the alignment box.

It’s that simple.

A simple screen grab of the alignment process. This isn’t rocket science.

#3 – The Accuracy & Metrics

I’ve been using the MLM2PRO both at the range and in my backyard, and I’m impressed with how it tracks my shots. If you’re a data lover, this unit gives you 12 different metrics including:

  • Total carry
  • Side carry
  • Club speed
  • Ball speed
  • Smash factor
  • Launch direction
  • Launch angle
  • Descent angle
  • Spin rate
  • Spin axis
  • Apex
  • Shot type

I can use this data to make precise adjustments and track if/how those adjustments improve my shots.

The dual camera system paired with radar makes for super accurate readings, and I love being able to replay my swings from different angles.

#4 – The App

Every purchase comes with a 1 year premium membership on Rapsodo’s app.

With this app, I can practice in Target Range Play mode. This lets me focus on shots I would see on an actual golf course.

There are two Virtual Ranges I can practice on. This is like owning two personal driving ranges with no overhead costs, bugs or annoying neighbors.

Best of all, I can play virtual rounds on over 30,000 Famous Golf Courses–courses that I’ll never have a chance to play in person.

The video below gives you a quick look at the graphics on the app. Nothing mind-blowing, but still nice and clean.

Pros and Cons

I’ve been using the Rapsodo MLM2PRO for a while now, and I can say with confidence that it has way more pros than cons.

I’ve already highlighted my favorite features, so here are my two drawbacks.

Cons

  • Every once is a while, connectivity can be a bit finicky. Might be my phone, might be the app…not really sure. Most of the time it works great.
  • Once the first year of your free premium subscription expires, there is a renewal cost to use all the features of the app. This is a tough pill to swallow if you’ve already paid $600-$700.

Here’s what other customers have to say:

Customer Reviews (summarized)

  • I’ve been using the MLM2PRO for a few months now, and it’s been a game-changer.
  • The accuracy is impressive – I’ve compared it to TopTracer ranges and found it spot-on.
  • I’ve owned several launch monitors. This is the best affordable option.
  • The software was good when I first bought it, but it continues to get better and better.
